How do I get a quote for a custom job?

Send your idea through this Contact form. Include the material (wood, acrylic, glass, stone, leather), rough size, quantity, artwork or inspiration, and your deadline. We'll reply with a quote and a digital proof.

How quickly do you reply?

We typically reply within one to two business days. If you've sent a message on a weekend or public holiday, expect a response the next business day.

Can I visit the studio?

We're a small home-based workshop rather than a retail shopfront, so visits are by appointment only. Free local pickup from Burdell is available for online orders.

Do you do phone consultations?

Yes we do. In most cases, submitting some project info first through the Contact form is best — it lets us see your artwork and references straight away, and Logan will reach out after viewing that info with questions. For complex projects (signage, large bulk orders, corporate work), we're more than happy to arrange a phone call — just ask in your first message, or call Logan directly on 0439 401 808.

What kinds of gifts can you personalise?

We personalise wooden cutting boards, coasters and trays, leather bookmarks and keychains, glassware, trophies and plaques, baby gifts, milestone cards, cake toppers, signage and 3D artwork. If you have something specific in mind that's not on the site, send us a message — we can usually make it.

How is the personalisation done?

Every item is laser-engraved or laser-cut in our Townsville studio. Engraving burns a permanent mark into wood, leather, stone and glass; for acrylic and some glassware the laser etches a soft, frosted finish. Both methods are permanent — no inks, no stickers, no rub-off. We can also print labels or images using a UV printer, as an alternative to laser engraving.

Can I add names, dates, monograms or messages?

Yes. You can add a name, date, monogram, logo or short message on most products — use the personalisation box on the product page. For longer messages, multiple lines or logos, send us the details via the Contact form. We'll always send a digital proof before completing the job.

Do you do personalised baby gifts?

Yes — engraved baby keepsakes, milestone cards, name plaques and customised wooden toys are popular. All wood is finished with food-safe oils where the item is likely to be handled or chewed.

Can I see what the engraving will look like before you make it?

For fully custom pieces, yes — we send a digital proof for your approval before we cut or engrave anything. For standard listed products we proceed straight to production unless you ask for a proof.

Crafted By That Guy is a Townsville-based custom laser cutting and engraving studio. We make personalised gifts, signage and keepsakes on wood, acrylic, leather, glass and stone — both ready-to-buy pieces and one-of-a-kind custom commissions for individuals and businesses.

"That Guy" is Logan — the founder and maker behind every piece. Logan personally designs, cuts, engraves and packs orders from our Burdell studio.

We're based in Burdell, in Townsville's northern suburbs, and ship Australia-wide. Free local pickup is available for customers in and around Townsville.

Are you a small business?

Yes — Crafted By That Guy is a small, owner-run Australian business. Every order supports a local maker rather than a mass-production line.

Do you take on corporate or event work?

We do — branded corporate gifts, milestone awards, wedding favours, event signage and bulk personalised pieces are all part of what we do. Reach out via our Contact page at least 2–3 weeks before your event for the smoothest turnaround.

What kinds of products do you make?

Cutting boards, coasters, trays, leather bookmarks and keychains, engraved glassware, trophies and plaques, milestone cards, cake toppers, business signage, house numbers and address signs, and layered 3D artwork. We also create custom educational products including puzzles, ply engraved learning resources and road tracks.

Can everything be personalised?

Almost every item can be customized with a name, date, monogram, logo or short message. Product pages will say "personalise" where that option is built in — and if you want something fully custom, send us an email via our Contact page with details of the project.

How does your custom laser cutting and engraving process work?

Send us your idea, sketch, logo or photo via our Contact form. We'll confirm material, size and finish, send a quote with a digital proof, and once you approve it we cut, engrave and ship. Most jobs move from approval to shipment within 3-6 business days, depending on complexity.

What file types do you accept for custom artwork?

Vector files (.AI, .SVG, .PDF, .EPS, .DXF) give the cleanest cuts and crispest engraving. We can also work from high-resolution PNG or JPG files for engraving, and we'll let you know if your file needs to be redrawn or vectorized before production. If you have only a sketch, that's OK too - we'll create the artwork from scratch in the correct format (additional design fee will apply).

What materials can you laser cut and engrave?

We regularly work with wood, stone, acrylic, glass, leather and rubber. Each material engraves differently — wood and leather produce warm, burned tones, acrylic gives a frosted etch, and stone and glass create a soft white finish. If you're not sure which suits your project, just ask. You can browse our previous projects to get an idea of the different finishes as well.

How long does a custom order take?

Standard production is typically 3–7 business days after proof approval, depending on size and complexity. Bulk orders, corporate gifting and event work should be booked 2–3 weeks in advance to guarantee delivery.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No. We're happy to make a single keepsake or a run of hundreds of corporate gifts. Per-unit pricing does drop on larger orders, so it's worth asking for a bulk quote. For custom items, the minimum order value is $75.

Can you engrave logos, photos or handwriting?

Yes. Logos and signatures work beautifully when supplied as clean artwork, and we can engrave photographs onto wood, slate and leather with surprisingly fine detail. We'll always send a digital proof before cutting so you can see exactly how it will look. If you have only a photo or sketch to work from, that's OK, we can create the artwork from scratch (design fee will apply to this service).

Do you offer design help if I don't have artwork ready?

We do. Light design tweaks (resizing, layout, basic text styling) are included. More involved custom design work is quoted separately, so you only pay for what you need.

How much does custom laser cutting cost?

Pricing depends on the material, size, quantity and how much engraving is involved. A single engraved coaster starts at a few dollars, while large signage or 3D layered artwork is quoted individually. Send us the details and we'll come back with a firm price.

Can you ship Australia-wide?

Yes, we ship across Australia and offer local pickup as well. Shipping cost and timing are confirmed on your quote based on size, weight and destination.

Do you do rush orders?

Sometimes — it depends on our production queue. If you have a tight deadline, mention it when you reach out and we'll tell you honestly whether we can hit the date.

Yes — most of the work shown is custom, but we can recreate something similar with your own colours, materials and personalisation. Send us a screenshot of the piece you like through the Contact form and we'll quote a version made for you.

Do you share these pieces with permission?

Yes, the work shown is published with the permission of the customers and businesses it was made for, and we never share customer details, addresses or private message content.

How do you decide what material to use for a project?

It depends on the look you want, where the piece will live, and your budget. Wood and leather give a warm, natural finish; acrylic is sleek and contemporary; stone and glass etch white and feel premium. We'll recommend the best material for your specific vision and project circumstances when we quote.

Can I supply my own material to engrave?

Sometimes — it depends on the material and how the laser handles it. Send us a photo and details and we'll let you know. We charge a setup and engraving fee for customer-supplied items.
